尊敬的南希.佩洛西女士：

我叫嚴穎鴻，是中國入獄藝術家、作家嚴正學的女兒。我寫信給您，請求您的幫助，救助我父親的生命。我的父親現年63歲（1944年出生），在早由於在中國遭受監禁和警察的拷打，他有嚴重的健康問題。他在 2006年10月18日在中國再次被警方逮捕，被指控：1、是中國民主黨的秘密成員；2、在國外網站發表文章；3、為中國流亡作家劉賓雁募捐，劉賓雁逝世於2005年；4、參與浙江一起土地維權事件。

根據我從父親的律師得到的最新消息，此案將在4月5日開庭；根據指控，父親面臨被判處10年以上徒刑的危險，這意味父親坐牢至少要到73歲，以至死在監獄中。

自此次被捕，父親非常煩亂和絕望，為了抗議這些不實指控，他在2007年1月曾在監獄內自殺一次，但被看守解救。我擔憂父親將會再次自殺以示抗議。作為女兒，我知道父親善良，他為抗議不公正能夠奉獻生命。像許多人一樣，我相信父親是無罪的。

我的父親是著名的藝術家，曾在紐約舉辦過展覽。他是一個坦直的人，曾幾次救過別人的生命。在當地，當人們遭受司法機關不公正地對待時，他總是努力提供幫助。這就是為什麼當地警方要羅織罪名，將我的父親投入監獄。

Dear Madam Nancy Pelosi,

My name is Yan Yinhong, daughter of an imprisoned Chinese artist/writer Yan Zhengxue. I am writing to you to appeal for your help to save my father life. My father is now 63 years old (born 1944) and is also suffering serious health problems resulted from earlier imprisonments and tortures of police in China. He was arrested by police in China again on October 18, 2006, being accused of committing include: i) being a secret member of the China Democracy Party; ii) publishing articles on foreign websites; iii) fundraising for an exile journalist Liu Binyan who died in 2005 and iv) intervening in a land grab incident in Zhejiang. According to the latest information I have got from his lawyer the trial will be held on 5th of April and my father is risking of being sentenced to more than 10 years in prison for these accusations. This means that he will be in prison until at least age of 73, and that is really end of his life. My father has been very upset and desperate since he was arrested. For protesting against these false accusations, my father did try to commit suicide already in January, 2007 in prison but stopped by jailers. I am afraid that my father will try again to commit suicide to protest. As a daughter I know my father well and I know that he would devote his life for protesting against the injustice. I believe, as many other people do, that my father is not guilty for any crime. He is a famous artist and had exhibition in New York. He is a candid person and has saved other people's lives several times. He has made many efforts to help local people who suffered from injustice legal system in his hometown. It is all apparent that this is the reason why local police is fabricating a case to put my father into prison. Since I am so worried about my father's safety and life, I become desperated as well and I really feel hopeless while I cannot see any help from anywhere in China. Then some friends suggest to me to write you, as you are concerned about human rights issues in China and you have helped a lot of Chinese people. I believe that you influence is great that you may give my father a chance. If you need, I can provide more detailed information about my father's case.
